My Germany weekend 6-26 to 6-29
While my travel group wanted to go to South of France, I wanted to travel around Germany since I enjoyed Berlin so much. I got up early Friday morning at went to Heidelberg. The first thing I did was checked into my hostel. The hostel was very new, clean and had a nice atmosphere. The lady at the front desk told gave me good starting points for exploring. I walked along the river through a park and then hiked up a hill that was covered in different sorts of vines wherein after a long hike it gave great view of the old part of Heidelberg. I had a good view of the castle which I next hiked to after hiking back down. The hike up the castle was steep and hot. The castle was interesting, wherein I went to an apothecary museum. I hiked back down to the old town where I just wondered around. I found the local University which I explored. There was an exhibit of botany books and wildlife books that dated from the 15 century. The details were incredible. In addition, I explored the library where I was surprised to notice how many books and journals were in English. The next day I took a day trip up to Köln. I read a lot about Köln at the German museum in Berlin which made me want to see the city. Upon exiting the main train station I saw the cathedral. It was still very black except for a few sections which they have started to clean. I explored the town a little, but went back to Heidelberg earlier than I anticipated since I lost my room key and wanted to get back before the office closed. Sunday I took the train down to Munich wherein I stopped over in another town before Munich. In Munich, I tried going to the Technology museum however by the time I got there it was closed. I then walked around, when I found a concert a square. I bought a beer and sausage from HB and listened to the free concert. It was a very nice concert. I then walked down to a metro stop such that I could get back to the train station to catch my night train back to Metz.
